Check-up is a general evaluation of the health status of healthy individuals and early diagnosis of a possible disease that has not yet caused a complaint. Having a check up is a person taking care of himself and his health. Early diagnosis is extremely important in some diseases and especially cancer. Therefore, early diagnosis of such diseases as a result of check-up scans also increases the success of treatment. Early awareness and early treatment in all areas of medicine and every disease will increase the comfort of life and prolong life. Tests that should be in a standard check up control; blood count, blood tests evaluating organ functions (liver, kidney, etc.), sedimentation, cholesterol and lipid levels, thyroid (goiter) test, hepatitis (jaundice) test, complete urine analysis, whole abdominal ultrasonography, chest radiography, electrocardiography and blood in stool search.
Everyone over the age of 40 is recommended to have additional tests for eye examination, cardiological examinations and cancer screening, whether or not they have familial risk, in addition to the standard tests. Those with familial risk should not wait until the age of 40 to have these tests. Those in the risk group should have additional tests done about the risks they bear starting from the age of 30.
Another purpose of having a check up is; It is the determination of possible disease risks caused by age, gender, smoking, especially hormonal periods (such as fertility-menopause) in women, and investigating the risks of familial diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke and cancer. Additional check-up examinations for those at risk of coronary artery disease in the family; It is HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, effort test and echocardiography. Women with a family history of cancer annually; PAP smear, breast ultrasonography, mammography, pulmonary function tests and lung computed tomography should be performed. Once a year for men with a family history of cancer; prostate specific antigen, respiratory function test and lung computed tomography should be performed.
