Cemil Kılavuz, a 50 year old patient who lives in Tosya complained that sudden swelling occurred on his body. Due to his complaints he became unable to walk. Kılavuz visited the Memorial Kidney Transplant Center where he met Nephrology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Gökhan Temiz, MD. Mr. Cemil was informed that due to chronic renal failure he should have kidney transplantationsurgery. The patient had to postpone the surgery since his son was preparing for marriage. As his condition deteriorated he received dialysis treatment for a period of 3 months. He joined the waitlist for a transplant. While he had been awaiting a kidney transplant surgery from his wife as living kidney donor, after a short time, he found out that a deceased donor (cadaveric donor) which was suitable for him, was found. Memorial Hospital Kidney Transplantation Center’s highly experienced surgeons and team performed a successful surgery and the patient regained his health. Assoc. Prof. Gökhan Temiz, MD, stated that this example once again emphasizes the importance of the race against time in organ transplants from cadaver, and the patient’s should not give up hope no matter in which city that they reside.
